Drive! OR get driven!!....
“The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do” Is something I end my email signature with.
Few years back in Oct 2008, I had started my professional career… for that matter my new NEW .. :D
Impressed by the glamour of the corporate world, my leap was taking me down the bed of this vast spread ocean. The trivial glitters, on the way, were 1st ones to attract. One of those uncanny exults was getting a designation and company name under mine. It was spooky but pleasure. GOOGLEing wordings to allure my signature… I had come across the idiom with what I started this write up ‘the greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say U cannot do.’
Pleasure is a simple word to describe the feeling when a person is happy. So
Pleasure = Happiness.
Nothing new… Zero marks for this… :P
Yeah but thinking about ‘What people say about U’ is another new NEW.
Aaa…. Well, when I was 10, I had overheard my friend’s mom praising her for her ‘memory power’. aaaaahh.. the feeling of competition was so into me, those days, that the freckless defiance had taken all over me and I was vying over with the girl…my so called friend then; until it was proved that I was the best. Yes, I was pleasured to do this though the mother’s praise absolutely gave no clue of ‘What people think I cannot do’ :P.
Too less tasks, too small circle and too less troubles to face, while at 10. Things change with time and So did I; but 1 thing never changed was taking up the challenges…not for the people but for my own pleasures.
Another definition:
Taking up Challenge => Pleasure.
As it had to, this life, when one could have tangible challenges, was soon over too. I had entered the corporate world where breaking records meant only when somebody else accepted it :P Now, does it matter to think ‘what people think about you?’
I know a diehard vocational cricketer who toils 12 hours a day constructing designs and codes for an incognito user thousands of miles across. Besides enjoying his innovations at work, this allrounder can cross any bar if he gets to play his game. His alarm can go off at 6:00 am, to play cricket, even if he has worked till 3 am or on Sundays when he usually gets up at 11:00. SO what do you think what makes him do this? ..Definitely not because people say something about him.
Well another example…
4 days to go for a competition; 9 working hours a day; 3 big un-attempted years in between to lose the stamina; yet in pursuit of success; a girl decides to dance and stir it up ; bags the 1st place and wins over the hearts.
6 months rigorous studies, 9 working hours a day; 3 week long exam time; a guy travels 36*2 hours to & back, yet a successful game just 30 mins after he landed his place.
To add more,
A wife asks her husband about how much he loves her? The husband replied “My love for you = Number of balls in an over if the bowler throws all wide balls… “
Yes, the wife indeed bangs her head for this one.. hahhaha..
But then what does all this show???
These are nothing but live examples of people dying hard to pursue their passions. Yes Passion is the word.
I, once, heard Chetan Bhagat, the famous writer, saying that there has to be a spark in everybody’s life. Life becomes boring if the spark dies out. Accordingly, Passion for these people is the spark that makes them go on and colours out their monotonous and hectic lives.
Well, to talk about.. It is you who identifies what your passion is. It is you who decide how and when to pursue it. It is you who enjoys scouting it out. Will it not be special for you? Will it not make you happy?
Well then…
What is the greatest pleasure in life???
1. Doing what people say u cannot do? OR
2. Doing what you dearly love?
Herculean job isn’t it?...unless your passion is to prove people wrong.. :D
So Should I identify my own passions? Or should I keep listening to people to pour in challenges?
Should I be the owner of my own wills and wishes? Or should I let somebody else to decide my course of life?
Don’t I really need to change my signature quote??? What do you think?
Definitely Drive :)
ReplyDeleteConsider an expensive car Ferrari or Lamborghini getting a dent. Why?? Yes somebody else was driving it.
What if the car had processor controlled driving? Would it catch a dent?
Drive drives the happiness through life, more than momentary happiness of achievements in being driven...
ReplyDeleteYes you should.. :) What ppl say does not matter until we enjoy doing things we are passionate about.. :) Its definitely great to drive urself than getting driven :) Nice article.. Nats.. :)
